RTM – EchoStar Mobile

EchoStar Mobile terminals can also be managed in RTM. There are some differences in comparison with, for example, BGAN management.

APN

The EchoStar Mobile service does not support sending text messaging to the terminal via SMS. Instead, a separate background IP data channel is used for this, with a separate APN. This APN must be enabled on the EM Satellite SIM card, which can be done in the PoP configuration screen at the moment of activation.

After the provisioning of the SIM card, a separate user profile for RTM has to be created.

Available information in RTM widgets:

For EchoStar Mobile, the same information is available as for BGAN, as described on RTM Terminal widgets.

Available terminal actions from RTM action menu:

Terminal actions available depend on the terminal type as well as on the firmware version. RTM automatically shows the commands available for the terminal-firmware combination. For EchoStar Mobile , in general the same commands are available as for BGAN, as described on RTM Terminal actions, with the exception of “Send SMS” as SMS is not available on EchoStar terminals.

Sending commands to an EchoStar terminal from the action menu

Sending commands from RTM is done from the actions menu. As no SMS functionality is available, commands are sent via a separate channel on the terminal, this is done via the RTM APN on the satellite SIM card in the terminal.

Important for Synergy terminals (EchoStar 4510):

  • The satellite SIM card needs to be available, even if the payload traffic is all going through the cellular SIM card. The satellite SIM card has the RTM APN on it, required for sending the commands.
  • Autotracking is available for EchoStar Mobile terminals via the PULL mechanism, however the EchoStar Mobile terminals do not update their GPS fix when they are on cellular.
